Dreams : Since this man could get the laws changed in his favor, he could use his privilege to help others, no ?Yes but then, everyone would know he was the one who intervened and he could end up in jail; then, during the visit by the girl friend of my ex’ youngest son, I had borrowed a short sleeved white cotton blouse from her and realized, as she was leaving, that I was still wearing it after getting a hand in finding a job in the big city, on a busy street where restaurants were crowded next to one another, including a tiny one specializing in wiener schnitzel.
I wake to the sound of Papageno singing”gute nacht, du falsche welt” (just before the three little angels give him his magical glockenspiel). In “real life”, I never met the young woman I saw in the dream; as for the three sons of my ex, I never received a single word from any of them after the separation, may Minerva blow them good, Apollo guide them, and the Nine Muses show them the Bears. Of wiener schnitzels, I recall the one I was brought one day in a restaurant in Vienna which literally overflowed the plate. Vienna, ah yes, where I had been friendly with two young students from the Fine Arts school, one of which had recommended me to her parents in Klagenfurt, on my way through that town to reach Italy. Contrary to their daughter, the parents were very straight-laced and during the one and only meal I ate with them, they had made a point of explaining how, in Klagenfurt, personally, they had never had to complain about the Nazis, wuite the opposite in fact, had specified the mummy. My stay in Klagenfurt was very brief. I only recall how the papa was a pharmacist with an impressive collection of porcelain jars for the various roots used in ancient pharmacopea. All this, in 1979, a few weeks prior to my arrival in Israel, ah yes, the mention of my destination was what had triggered Madame’s testimonial to the exquisite manners of the Nazis in Klagenfurt.
During a final foray out on the computer last night (before settling for Finnegan’s Wake where the rantings are intentional), I hesitated over which was the most ridiculous photo of the day. I finally opted for that of three young men in bathing suits smiling away while taking in the sun, so as to get a “tan” that would give them the same color skin as that of the native-born “colored” they treat like scum. Then, as a final reflection, the fact I don’t much care for the word “feminism”. Why? Because it seems to establish as a principle that the harmful consequences of the patriarchy generalized across the world are concentrated on women. Those consequences are undeniable but seem to take for granted the formating imposed on boys and without which the daily dramas between “women” and “men” could not continue, as if they were distinct species and pawns in a chess game doomed to failure. (I see that in my copy of Finnegan’s Wake, on page 5, I underlined and addded in the margin the words “duly noted” next to this piece of advice from Joyce “for a nod to the nabir is better than wink to the wabsanti“. I couldn’t say it better myself.)
So much for the vast reflections on this Sunday morning, prior to heading to market to buy some bread, fruit and vegetable and, possibly, a bit of cheese. In the USA, the lackeys at the service of the Chief Incompetent have bended the knee in favor of his liege-man as head prosecutor in the country, in that way incompetents have of recognizing their role as designated pawns, and this also is a consequence of patriarchy – you Follow the Leader until the next Leader appears that’s bigger and stronger than he is, in a cascade of little chiefs playing the master down to the tiniest little shack in the smallest village bordering the edge of the map. Stand by your Man, Woman, as he bends the knee to the Leader.
