A voice (in English, in dreamtime): “members of their own team were telling them they were shooting into their own goal with measures that would their own supporters”; then, and art and essay cinema was showing all the film shorts by one Giovanni or Lorenzo Pressi, I wanted to see the one presented under #2, recommended by historian Timothy Snyder, but I wasn’t tall enough to reach the button I had to press, so I was about to choose another one toward the bottom of the list.
(Of the list of 20 recommendations in Snyder’s On Tyranny, I only know two by heart : in the beginning “do not obey in advance” and toward the end or at the very end, “be as brave as you can be”.)
As for tthe “voice” in the first dream: a reminiscence of an excerpt on facebook of the Republican representative for South Carolina scolding his colleagues and the president for measures that will harm their own supporters when they vote, since most of them do not own identity documents such as a passport, that the married name of many women does not match the one on their birth certificates and that the delays for the implementation of these measures would require at least a year, given the specific ways in which different states implement federal decisions.
All this, upon waking, bringing me back to the voice of Papageno in The Magic Flute, singing “Gute Nach du Falsche Welt” (but it’s just before the appearance of Papagena. Which makes me think of the scene worthy of the one of the Marx Brothers movies, but in real time: the journalists’ gala presided by…president Trump where journalists received a prize for their reporting about, notably, his drawing and signature in a birthday album for Epstein de pedophile…and then filing onstage to shake the hand of the guffawing president, the very same one who will launch investigations and formal demands for financial compensations from them, and who will keep on calling female journalists “stupid” and “piggy”. Such fun to be had at the journalists’ gala. “Be as brave as you can be”) Gute Nacht, du Falsche Welt, yes indeed.
Of course, I now have the music from the next scene in the Flute playing in my head, followed by the booming, solemn voices of Zarastro and the chorus toward the end. Tamino has succeeded in all the trials (so has Pamina, by the way) and they are reunited at last.

Scenes for the young girl’s tale in L’Horloger started coming together yesterday. As pertains to practical matters, the temperatures will climb again this week. How things stand with the fires, I don’t know yet, except for the fact that one hamlet has been completly razed further North and the president of the Republic aimed to go pay the firefighters a visit yesterday— I’m sure the exhausted men taking a break had other things on their mind than playing curtsy to presidential photo op courtesies.
Illustration : has nothing to do with the above, it’s the cover of the latest in the notebooks in which I jot down various impressions (one from the collection of notebooks I’m offered as birthday presents); this one resembles a kind of map of an imaginary sky.
