Gauche, droite…

It was a collective of some undetermined nature — a convent, a commune of some sort —I was having a discussion with some in a room, next door some children were fighting, I went out in the hallway to find out what it was about, two of the children had stepped out of the room where the others were fighting, in the stairwell: a steaming hot dish straight out of the oven contained braised pears and parsnips that looked delicious, then it was evening and I was sitting in front of a telly, on my left, prince Philip the duke of Edingburg and to my right, Queen Elizabeth, it was dessert time, mine consisted of an abricot of unequaled suavity, that could never be equalled in reality.
As pertains to the Duke of Edinburg, the Queen of England and unequalled desserts, only one comes to mind, when our father prepared “ice cream” from overripe bananas. That was truly delicious. The presence of their majesties undoubtedly has something to do with the blessed days, before Brexit, when one could obtain books in England from a collective of independent booksellers who shipped everywhere in Europe for a modest fee. Brexit put an end to that, as to many other common initiatives. And there’s heavy jostling among the “higher ups” for there to be no need to even vote for RN over here in order to insure the control of the partisans of mismanagement in all directions. Witness the cops gleefully charging against teen agers calling for better conditions in their schools, ministers congratulating the cops for brutalizing kids demonstrating peacefully, and TV stations whipping up the frenzy of indignation against …the kids.
Yesterday, I spent an inordinate amount of time underlining the adverbs in a book praised by some as being a masterpiece of science-fiction in which the implausible disputes it with sloppy writing, said adverbs functioning as stand-ins for character development. I did it because this “masterpiece” was certainly part of the reading on which one Elon Musk scarfed away, along with this cartoonish space adventure comic books. The great “guru” of science fiction ? Isaac Asimov, he of inter-galactic Empires and unknown metals capable of neutralizing…the atom. The king of the adverb, that’s for sure : excessively, constantly, unnecessarily, obtrusively, openly, quietly, flatly, stealthily, scornfully, softly, bluntly... and more. In short, between this kind of sludge and Ayn Rand’s Atlas, champion of wild and unbridled capitalism who so impressed Peter Thiel, we are merrily drifting on these gentlemen’s nightmares along with all the idiots they manage to enlist.
All that remains is to preserve one’s mental health, along with folks that are still resistant to the bewitching. (The Duke of Edinburg in the dream had an odd resemblance with Edouard Philippe, former Prime minister and now candidate for the presidency, as for the Queen of England, she was in her dressing gown and totally absorbed by her little corgis.) Left, right…
