Dreams: First, a hermit deep in the woods, living with his wolf dog, learned another wolf dog was being sent to fight with his, so his wolf dog flattened out and the hermit stood on it as on a raft and crossed the river on it toward the other shore; then, in a psychologist’s office, a child was crying, crying for months without speaking a word, the psychologist asked “why do you come here anyway?” I turned toward the child and said “very good question”, then as I found her at home, still wordless but not crying anymore, I left to take care of something else, when I came back I found her chatting away gaily with someone while eating the ears of a chocolate rabbit.

The first dream had something of the Bilibin illustrations of Russian skazky (and the unfinished stories following on Tales of Exile, I just realize); as for the second, there’s the obvious and the not-so-obvious. Last night, as I read about the trillions of dollars poured into the banks because “it was crucial to fix Wall Street to help Main Street“, I couldn’t help asking myself, really ? Supposing the system had crashed, period. Supposing the system had not been saved. Supposing it had been the day when everything stopped. What then ?

Then, riots and tutti quanti, obviously. But not only.

I didn’t go to the demonstrations yesterday, but it’s been years since I’ve been to any, the whole thing taking on the look of opportunities for the police to lash out with all their latest gear, and for a fringe of the demonstrators to see it as the opportunity to do the same with what’s on hand. I din’t go to the party at the Rugissant either where, I’m told, there was a crowd. I don’t feel comfortable in crowds. So, I did like the hermit, but with my cat. And with Adam Tooze also, asking myself “which system was it that needed to be saved in the autumn of 2008? Who was being hurt ? Who was included in the circle of those who needed to be protected? And who was not?”

And the gaming picked up where it had stopped. And got worse.

I wonder what I did with the tales of the Kalmuk in the forest.
