Good luck, Dusty, it’s going to be a rocky road to climb.

Dream : I visit an exhibition of paintings done by a friend — variations on the rocks in her environment

clearly, for me, something to do with the pariah girl child in L’Horloger des Brumes, said rocks making up the entirety of her first universe

but also the Brecht poem ending with the words “Du verstehst, das Harte unterliegt” — You see, what is hard is underneath”, quoted in Pariahs, Hannah Arendt and the “tribe” in Paris (1933-1941) by Marina Touillez and quoted by Catherine Coquio on facebook yesterday. The “tribe” including Walter Benjamin and so, “the angel telling the tale” is the angel of the future, inspired by Paul Klee’s Angel, that odd being on which the winds of History are unleashed.

(I’m on the fifth of the lectures in the series Hitler and Stalin Today, by historian Timothy Snyder. Which I am following on youTube in the original English, of course, but with AI generated French subtitles to get a sense of their adequacy. On the whole, they are OK except for the word Droit? appearing every time Snyder punctuates his sentence with a Right? and the ineffable variations on the names he mentions — Victor Klemperer becomes either “Clumper” ou “Cleeper”, Dreyfus, “Drifus”, Herzl “Herzol” and my favorite among them all, Dostoyevsky transformed into ” Dusty Doski” — in and of himself Dusty Doski deserves a spot in a story, something like Trump’s former enabler who is now, we hear, attempting to regain his favor after having turned on him. Good luck, Dusty, it’s going to be a rocky road to climb. (I suppose he’ll be claiming that his accusations were forced upon him by president Biden’s horrible men, Inquisition style.)

Yes, the hard, meaning the resistant, is underneath, what is above it getting dissolved in the water washing over it and Hegseth-ordered testosterone injections for a “stronger fighting force” are yet another scatterbrained distraction from stuff like the necessity to listen to competent people, instead of firing them, but Trump needs a court of Hegseths and Patels and Blanchs, and Voughts, and Millers, and all the rest of them because the last thing he needs is competent ones getting in the way of his corruption.

The book by Marina Touillez, to order from my bookstore, L’Autrucherie, the “ostrich’s den”. (Ah yes, about the legend concernant ostriches being big cowards; they bury their eggs and check to see that they’re not being attacked by lizards or other beasties. When they are frightened, they flee on their long legs. So their “head in the sand”, is to check that their eggs are well protected. Ha. Because “You see, what is hard is underneath.” )
