“Communications” –

Alors là, je ne sais pas comment on en vient à utiliser ce mot quand les dites “communications” consistent en échanges non seulement anonymes mais sans information sur le qui et le pourquoi de la lecture.

Je parle de quoi, au juste ? De ce qui doit être une “lecture” faite de mon blog aujourd’hui par un robot, sans doute. Si je tente de remonter à la source, je tombe sur un site qui me demande mon mot de passe – sans m’informer le moins du monde sur qui gère le site en question et pourquoi. Une recherche rapide sur internet ne livre aucune information sur le site ni même sur son existence.

Bravo, les communicants ! À titre d’information, pour ceux que ça intéresse, le dictionnaire donne le sens originel suivant au mot “communication”: 1. Le fait de communiquer, d’établir une relation avec (qqn, qqch.) En anglais s’y rajoute dans le premier sens la notion d’une transmission d’information sans contact, sens qu’on retrouve en 3e définition en français. De toute évidence, la notion du “sans contact” est celle que privilégient les “anonymes” de ce monde, y compris mon “visiteur” de ce matin.

J’en reste à cette notion non-robotique du contact entre humains. Elle semble en voie de devenir un bien précieux par sa rareté.

Une recherche un peu plus poussé indique qu’il s’agirait sans doute d’une boîte de – excusez le barbarisme – “monitoring social”. On se sent tout de suite dans un monde de bisounours, n’est-ce pas?

Avis au moniteur: j’ai 73 ans et je n’ai pas le droit de vote dans ce pays. Allez “monitorer”  ailleurs.

Frankly, I don’t know how we’ve come to use the word “communications” when they consist of exchanges that are not only anonymous but devoid of all information about the who and the why of the reading.

What am I talking about? About what must be a “reading” of my blog done today by a robot, no doubt. If I attempt to find the source, I come across a site requesting my password – without informing me in the least on who manages the site nor why. A quick search on the web turns up no information on the site or even on its existence.  

Bravo, communicators! For those it might interest, here is the primary meaning of the word “communication” in French: “The fact of communicating, of establishing a relationship (with someone or something)”. In English, the primary meaning of the word includes the notion of imparting information without human contact  being part of the process. Clearly, this seems to be the preferred option for the anons in the world, including this morning’s “visitor”.

Personally, I’ll stick to that non-robotic notion of contact between humans. It seems to be turning into a precious notion, due to its rarefaction.

Pushing the research a bit further, it would appear that my visitor was sent along by something called a – pardon the ridiculous label – “social monitoring” firm. Doesn’t that make you feel warm and fuzzy all over?
