Je ne sais pas s’il faut parler d’une “page” ou d’un “mur” concernant facebook; toujours est-il que sur ma “page” ou mon “mur” je garde des gens dont je partage plus ou moins le point de vue, et d’autres. Les autres, sous certaines conditions, sont là tout simplement pour me rappeler le point de vue de ceux et celles qui ont tendance à “suivre le courant”, des gens qui votent à droite, certainement, en raison d’un certain conservatisme et de leur capacité à supporter les “exagérations” de certains, qu’ils s’empressent de contrebalancer avec les “outrances” de ce qui s’appelle encore la gauche. On y trouve aussi des gens de cette ” gauche” dont les indignations m’insupportent parce que je ne vois pas comment on peut tenir la même note stridente outragée en permanence. Ça me fait toujours penser à une phrase dans un des livres d’André Malraux, lu il y a plus de 60 ans maintenant et qui disait, plus ou moins “il est plus attaché à sa protestation que décidé à vaincre”. En fait, c’est la protestation en elle-même qui les intéresse, pour ce qui est des solutions, que d’autres s’en occupent (qu’ils puissent les critiquer).

Sur cette même “page” ou “mur” l’autre jour, j’ai signalé une publicité mensongère affirmant que c’était l’OTAN qui avait déclenché la guerre contre la Russie. On m’a répondu que la pub en question “ne contrevenait pas aux règles de la communauté”, mais que je ne la verrais plus. Elle poursuivrait donc sa carrière mensongère ailleurs. En bref: pour facebook, le menteur payeur a une valeur ajoutée, qu’il prospère à volonté.

“La langue qui écrit et qui pense à ma place.” C’est dans La Langue du Troisième Reich de Victor Klemperer.* Parlant de l’appauvrissement de la langue, il écrit comment la République de Weimar, “de façon quasi suicidaire, avait levé tout contrôle sur la liberté d’expression; les partisans du National Socialisme répétaient de façon méprisante qu’il ne faisaient qu’utiliser les droits que leur accordait la Constitution lorsque dans leurs livres et dans les journaux, ils s’en prenaient sans pitié à l’Etat, toutes ses institutions et principes directeurs en utilisant tous les outils de la satire et de l’attaque. Il n’y avait aucunes limites dans les arts et les sciences, en esthétisme ou en philosophie.“

Il ajoute : “Mais le langage ne se contente pas simplement d’écrire et de penser pour moi, de plus en plus il me dicte mes sentiments et gouverne tout mon être spirituel de façon de plus en plus inconsciente et aveugle. Je m’y abandonne. Et ce qui se produit, si la langue “correcte” est composée d’éléments venimeux ou est devenue porteuse de poisons ? Les mots peuvent devenir comme des doses minuscules d’arsenic; avalés sans y prêter attention, ils ne semblent pas avoir d’effet, et puis après un certain temps, leur effet se fait sentir…”

Voilà. Les formes de la maladie ont changé ? Oui, mais elle fait rage, dans une inconscience grandissante.

I don’t know if it’s called a “page” or a “wall” on facebook; in any case I have people on mine whose opinions I share more or less. Others are there, under certain conditions, simply to remind me of the point of view of those who tend to “follow the stream”, people who certainly vote on the right because of a certain conservatism and of the capacity of putting up with the “exaggerations” of some, which they quickly counterbalance with the “outrageousness” of what still calls itself the Left. You also find there people from this “Left” whose indigations annoy me because I don’t see how anyone can keep to the same strident note of outrage permanently. It always reminds me a sentence in one of André Malraux’ books, read more than 60 years ago now that said, more or less “he is more attached to his protest than determined to win”. In fact, it’s the protest in and of itself they are interested in, as for soutions, let others take care of them (so that they may criticze them).

On this same “page” or “wall” the other day, I signaled an ad claiming falsely that NATO had started the war against Russia. The answer I received was that the ad in question “did not contravene community guidelines” but I wouldn’t be seeing it again. It would thus pursue its career of falsehood elsewhere. Briefly stated: for facebook, a paying liar has an added value and may he prosper at will.

“Language which writes and thinks for you.” It’s in Victor Klemperer’s The Language of the Third Reich.* Speaking of the impoverished language of the period, he writes how the Weimar Republic “almost suicidally lifted all controls on freedom of expression; the National Socialists used to claim scornfully that they had only taking advantage of the rights granted them by the constitution when in their books and newspapers they mercilessly attacked the state and all its institutions and guiding principles using every available weapon of satire and belligerent sermonizing. There were no restraints whatsoever in the realm of the arts and sciences, aesthetics and philosophy.”

He adds : “But language does not simply write and think for me, it also increasingly dictates my feelings and governs my entire spiritual being the more unquestioningly and unconsciously I abandon myself to it. And what happens if the cultivated language is made up of poisonous elements or has been made the bearer of poisons? Words can be like tiny doses of arsenic: they are swallowed unnoticed, appear to have no effect, and then after a little time the toxic reaction sets in after all…”

There you have it. The shape of the illness has changed ? Yes, but it is raging, the mindlessness increasing.
