Je ne recenserai pas ici tous les motifs de tristesse à une première visite sur les sites d’information et sur facebook; ça serait long, fastidieux et improductif pour moi et pour tout lecteur éventuel. Je ne retiens que deux éléments – l’un sur facebook, l’autre dans une information publiée par The Times of Israel.

Sur facebook, une personne qui a beaucoup publié au sujet de l’Ukraine s’est soudainement retirée après des injures dont je ne sais rien; je sais à quel point cela peut être blessant et j’ai trouvé dommage qu’elle parte. Ce matin, elle est de retour avec une image générée par IA, montrant un enfant ensanglanté devant une femme étendue, morte, apparemment. La main levée, l’enfant réclame qu’on lève la nôtre en appui pour Gaza. Quelqu’un lui signale gentiment que l’image est clairement produite par IA, la main de l’enfant comportant …5 doigts en plus du pouce. L’émettrice le prend très mal, fustige le commentateur qu’elle a beaucoup soutenu sur l’Ukraine et le lui laisse savoir. Un autre commentaire émet la même remarque; je suppose qu’il se fera “ramasser” de la même façon.

En plus de la fausse image, je trouve désespérant ce genre de mise en demeure qui est une des spécialités des réseaux sociaux – blanc/noir, pour/contre, le mode de fonctionnement 0/1 d’un ordinateur. Je prends note et je passe sans commentaire.

Quant au Times of Israel, j’y apprends qu’après visionnement par des personnes devant y avoir accès des images d’horreurs commises par Hamas en Israël le 7 octobre dernier -un mois, déjà, c’est à peine croyable – Netanyahou songerait à diffuser largement ces images – un geste qui me paraît inqualifiable. Une femme qui a perdu son mari et son fils ce jour-là proteste, disant qu’elle veut célébrer leur vie, et non leur mort. Elle a bien raison. De plus, dans le climat de haines et de douleurs exacerbées, pareille diffusion ne fera qu’accentuer les clivages et inciter au franchissement d’une étape supplémentaire dans la banalisation de l’horreur. Netanyahou s’imagine-t-il que cela produira un mouvement de sympathie pour Israël ? Je n’en crois rien. Quand on entend des commentaires du genre “ils l’ont bien mérité”, il est évident que jeter de l’huile sur le feu n’aidera pas à l’éteindre. Et tout ça, seulement pour nourrir un rabaissement additionnel dans l’espace mental disponible pour la réflexion, la compassion et des distinctions responsable entre les coupables et les innocents – et ce, de la part de l’un qui tente par tous les moyens de distraire de ses propres manquements ? Merci quand même.

J’ai mis beaucoup de temps à m’endormir hier soir, en songeant à des éléments que je veux rajouter à Ovda ’80, et à la quasi-impossibilité de publier pareil récit sans en prendre plein la tronche pour le “culot” d’écrire un texte dont le protagoniste est un homme, juif et homosexuel, alors que je ne suis rien de tout ça. Oui, parce que, dans l’ambiance actuelle, un écrivain peut écrire un récit sur les aventures d’un chien à trois têtes sur la planète Mars, sans en être un et n’ayant jamais visité la planète en question, mais malheur à elle ou lui si les personnages sont d’une autre couleur de peau, religion, sexualité…Quelles transgressions inacceptables !

Tant pis. J’écris comme cela me semble juste de le faire; et je poursuis avec les rajouts que je souhaite faire au texte.

I won’t cover all the reasons for sadness from this first visit to information sources and to facebook this morning; it would take a long time, it would be fastidious and unproductive for me and for any eventual reader. I simply note here two elements – one on facebook, the other in a piece of news published by The Times of Israel.

On facebook, someone who has published a lot concerning Ukraine suddenly shut down her page following insults I know nothing about; I know how hurtful that can be and was disappointed to see her go. This morning, she’s back with an AI generated image showing a bloodied child in front of a prone woman, presumably dead. His hand raised, the child demands that we raise our own in support for Gaza. Someone kindly signals that the image is clearly an AI production, the child’s hand showing …5 fingers plus a thumb. The woman takes this very poorly, scolds the commentator she supported on Ukraine and tells him so in so many words. Another commentator has the same remark; I suppose he or she will receive the same kind of drubbing.

Along with the phoney image, I find this kind of injunction hopeless; it’s a kind of classic on social networks – black/white, for/against, the computer generated O/1 mindset. I take note and pass without a comment.

As for The Times of Israel, I learn on it that following the showing to people who need to know of images of the horrors perpetrated by Hamas in Israel on October 7th last – one month ago, already, that’s almost incredible – Netanyahu is now considering publishing those images at large – a gesture I consider unspeakable. A woman who lost her husband and her son that day protests, saying she wants to celebrate their life, not their death. She is quite right. Moreover in the current climate of exacerbated hatreds and sufferings, such a broadcasting would only accentuate the splits, and incite the crossing of a further step in the trivialization of horror. Does Netanyahu imagine it will lead to a movement of sympathy for Israel ? I don’t see how it couldl. When you hear comments such as “they deserved it”, it seems obvious that adding fuel to the fire won’t help in putting it out. And all that just to feed a further lowering in the mind spaces available for reflection, compassion and responsible distinctions between the guilty and the innocent by one attempting in every way to deflect attention from his own failings ? Thanks anyway.

I had a hard time falling asleep last night, thinking about what I wanted to add to Ovda ’80 and the quasi-impossibility of publishing such a narrative without taking straight hits for the “chutzpah” of writing something whose protagonist is a man, Jewish, and a homosexual, where I am none of these. Yes because, in the current climate, a writer can write a tale of the adventures of a three-headed dog on Mars without being such a thing and never visiting Mars, but woe is him or her if the characters are another skin color, religion, sexual leaning…Such unacceptable transgressions!

That’s just too bad. I write as it strikes me as correct to do; onward with the additions I wish to make to the text.
