Le moral, le moral, c’est vite dit.

Ils ont eu quatre ans pour réfléchir. Quatre années pour se préparer au travail sérieux de démantèlement du système de gouvernement des Etats-Unis.Vous ne voulez même pas y penser? L’ennui, c’est qu’il y a beaucoup de gens qui pensent exactement comme vous, comme si ce cauchemar serait épargné au monde si on fait comme s’il n’existait pas. Mais voilà. Aux Etats-Unis, ceux qu’on appelle là-bas des archi-conservateurs (il faut croire que le terme d’extrémistes ne s’emploie que pour la gauche, même la plus timorée qui soit) en sont à considérer les ultra-conservateurs de la Federalist Society comme des vieux croutons totalement dépassés. Non, il faut recruter des avocats qui trouveront les arguments nécessaires pour mettre en route chacune des “idées” d’un Trump (ou d’un autre du même style) pour que ce qu’ils insistent pour appeler une République et non une démocratie se dresse fièrement devant les autres structures autoritaires dans le monde ayant Dieu de leur Côté – Russie, Iran, Chine…

C’est qu’on a affaire à des malades. Et pas qu’en Russie, en Iran ou en Chine. Qui Nétanyahou choisit-il pour présider le sous- comité responsable de la Judée et de la Samarie (c’est-à dire, la Cisjordanie) ? Zvi Zukkot, un extrémiste du Parti Zioniste Religieux, un habitant des colonies interdites et soupçonné d’attaques terroristes contre les Palestiniens. Des groupes tels que Brothers in Arms et Peace Now accusent Netanyahou de mettre la sécurité nationale en danger en désignant un pyromane à un tel poste. “Comme de verser 700 litres de fuel sur un troisième front”, d’après Merav Michaeli, cheffe du parti travailliste.

Et dans sa chronique ce matin, André Markowicz cite l’article publié par Libération contenant des fuites du document élaboré par le ministère du Renseignement israélien pour le déplacement définitif des Palestiniens hors de Gaza et dans le désert du Sinaï, où le gouvernement égyptien aura tâche d’en faire ce qu’il veut bien.

Je travaille présentement sur une histoire qui se déroule justement suite aux Accords du Camp David lorsqu’Israël a rendu la péninsule du Sinaï à l’Egypte. La notion que celle-ci devienne le troisième camp de réfugiés palestiniens encerclant Israël, avec celui du Liban et celui de Jordanie, est l’image même d’un cauchemar devenu réalité.

Parmi mes lectures en soirée ces jours-ci: de nouvelles incursions dans Les Origines du Totalitarisme de Hannah Arendt et je suis au regret de le dire, nous vivons présentement à l’orée d’une version NOUVELLE ! AMÉLIORÉE ! des vieux démons, lâchés à nouveau sur le monde.

Alors, pour ce qui est du morale, disons simplement que c’est un défi et que tout bien considéré, les cauchemars de nuit présentent l’immense avantage de pouvoir s’en réveiller. (Et je dois noter que dans celui de la nuit dernière, le rêveur parvenait à déporter son vélo sur un abrupt boueux et à dévaler la côte fangeuse jusqu’en bas.)

Who has Netanyahu chosen to preside the Foreign Affairs and Security sub-committe on Judea and Samaria (in other words, the Left Bank?) In this morning’s column, André Markowicz quotes the article published in Libération based on leaks of a document prepared by the Israeli Ministry of Intelligence describing the permanent displacement of Palestinians out of Gaza and into the Sinai desert where it will be the Egyptian governement’s job to do with them what it so chooses.

I happen to be working on a story right now that takes place after the Camp David Agreement had Israel return the Sinai Peninsula to Egypt. The notion that it would now become the third refugee camp enclosing Israel, with those of Lebanon and Jordan, is like a nightmare turned into reality.

Among my evening reading, these days : another foray into Hannah Arendt’s The Origins of Totalitarianism and, I’m sorry to say, we are currently living on the cusp of a NEW! IMPROVED! version of the old demons, let loose on the world, once again.

So, as far as morale goes, let’s just say it’s a struggle and that, all things considered, nightmares have the undeniable advantage of being states of being from which you can wake up. (And I do note that in the one last night, the dreamer managed to veer with her bicycle onto a steep and muddy incline and barrel down safely through the mud.)
