Relire Orwell. Ses réflexions sur le nationalisme, qu’il distingue bien du patriotisme, ce sentiment d’amour et d’affection que l’on ressent pour un endroit au monde, sans supposer que d’autres doivent partager le même; alors que le nationalisme, lui, comporte toujours un aspect coercitif appelant à reconnaître la supériorité indéniable d’un groupe humain par rapport à un autre.

Relire Orwell pour les Deux Minutes de Haine obligatoires dans 1984, que certains médias – ici et ailleurs – s’emploient dorénavant à distiller quotidiennement – et pour bien plus de deux minutes, d’ailleurs.

Relire Orwell pour l’appauvrissement du langage – méthode d’appauvrissement de la pensée – et pour le renversement du sens des mots et des concepts en leurs contraires.

Relire Orwell. Une façon de limiter la perte d’énergie dans des bouffées d’indignation sans lendemain; de comprendre que ce que nous vivons, Orwell l’avait annoncé, et qu’il nous faut rester vigilant(e) sur un terrain médiatique truffé de mines. 

Redonner sa pleine valeur à la pensée, et aux mots pour l’exprimer. Le ressenti ne s’en portera que mieux.

Re-reading Orwell. A way to limit the loss of energy in gusts of indignation with no follow-through; of understanding that we are living what Orwell had announced, and that we must remain vigilant on a media terrain stuffed with mines.

Giving back its full value to thought, and to words to express it. Feelings will only be the better for it.
