À Toulouse, l’ENAC (ecole nationale d’aviation civile) est une véritable cité à l’intérieur de la ville. On y forme des pilotes de lignes, des contrôleurs aériens, des gérants d’aéroport – tous ces gens sur lesquels on compte lorsqu’on prend l’avion. Un dimanche après-midi consacré à la fabrication de carnets en papier recyclé avec des enfants intéressés, curieux, de tous horizons.

Aujourd’hui: atelier d’écriture, écriture à la main toute la journée. Repos essentiel pour le pouce de la main droite, qui n’en peut plus du tout petit geste, constamment répété pour faire avancer le texte à l’ordi.

Des informations, saisies à la hâte, je retiens la démission d’un diplomate russe en désaccord profond avec la politique de son gouvernement.

Et au chapitre du ridicule, cette “analyse littéraire” émanant de la porte-parole du ministère des affaires russes de Russie, nous apprenant que Georges Orwell a écrit le roman 1984 pour dénoncer le libéralisme, et non pas le totalitarisme. Et s’il y a des russes pour croire que l’Allemagne nazie et l’Union soviétique lui ont servi de modèle, c’est, évidemment, encore et toujours de la désinformation. La Russie tente de “sauver” l’Ukraine et s’il faut les raser jusqu’au dernier, et bien, c’est le prix qu’ils auront payé pour s’être éloignés de la Russie dont la bienveillance est bien connue.

Bien. Je vais reposer mon pouce.

In Toulouse, the ENAC (école nationale d’aviation civile) is a veritable inner city. Training there is for pilots, air traffic controlers and managers of civilian airports – all those people we depend upon when taking a plane. A Sunday afternoon spent making notebooks out of recycled paper with children who were interested, curious, and from a number of foreign countries.

Today, writing workshop, writing by hand all day long. Essential rest for the thumb on the right hand which is painful from constantly repeating the same tiny gesture to move the text forward on the screen.

Of the news, skimmed through rapidly, I note the Russian diplomat at the UN who quit his job because he’s in profound disagreement with his country’s policies.

And under the chapter of the ridiculous, this “literary analysis’ emanating from the spokesperson from Russia’s Foreign ministry, in which we learn that George Orwell wrote 1984 as a denunciation of Western liberalism, not of totatlitarian regimes. And if any Russians think the book is based on totalitarian regimes such as Nazi Germany or the Soviet Union, that’s just more proof of Western disinformation. Russia is attempting to “save” Ukraine and if it must be razed for this purpose, well, that’s the price they’ll have to pay for drifting away from Russia’s well-documented benevolence.

So there. And now, I’ll go rest my thumb.
