Imaginez –

Oui, je sais. Nous avons tous trop, trop, trop de lièvres à courir en même temps. En plus, vous n’y pouvez rien et moi non plus.

Si, tout de même. On peut prendre quelques secondes pour s’imaginer ce que serait le tollé si, par un trait de génie quelconque, le vieux centre d’Albi et son immense cathédrale en briques disparaissaient sous les eaux pour satisfaire à un pharamineux projet  qui assurerait le contrôle de toute l’eau de la région à une poignée de satrapes. C’est Hasankeyf qu’on noit en ce moment.

Il y a des endroits comme celui-là que les cars de touristes ne prenaient pas d’assaut mais qui faisaient partie de notre histoire à tous, de ce qu’on appelle (appelait?) une partie du patrimoine mondial de l’humanité.

Après 12 000 ans d’habitation, on noit Hasankeyf. Voilà. Vous n’y pouvez rien? Vous pouvez le savoir. Savoir n’est pas rien.

(Quoi? Je ne dis rien au sujet de l’abandon des kurdes par leur “allié” américain et le début de l’invasion turque en Syrie du nord? Non. Je suppose que si vous suivez le moindrement les informations, vous êtes au courant. À moins, évidemment, de refuser de suivre les nouvelles du monde parce que “tout ça est trop déprimant.” Si c’est le cas, rassurez-vous: ça le deviendra encore plus.)

Imagine –

Yes, I know. We all have way too many things that need doing. Plus, you can’t do a thing about it, and neither can I.

Nonethless. We can take a few seconds to imagine what an uproar there would be if some genius flooded the old town of Albi and its massive brick cathedral in order to fulfill some pharaonic project insuring control of the region water supply for a handful of bigwigs. Hasankeyf is the one being flooded at the moment.

There are places like this one that busloads of tourists didn’t invade but that were part of our history anyway, what we call (called?) a part of the World Heritage.

After 12 000 years of being inhabited, Hasankey is being drowned.  Voilà. You can’t do anything about it? You can know. Knowing isn’t nothing.

(What? I’m not saying a word about the betrayal of the Kurds by their American “ally” and the Turkish invasion now begun in Northern Syria. No. I’m assuming you already know, if you follow the news. Unless, of course, you refuse to stay informed of world news because “all that is so depressing”. If that’s the case, rest assured: it will get even more so.)
