“Oiseau migrateur”-

Avec Jakye au cinéma Vertigo, hier, nous avons réceptionné le matériel pour l’exposition Zehra Dogan qui débutera dans le hall du cinéma le 20 janvier prochain. Ce soir-là, les visiteurs pourront assister au documentaire Baska Bir Dag (l’Autre montagne) de Noémi Aubry et Anouck Mangeat sur le quotidien de femmes turques et kurdes d’aujourd’hui, puis voir des reproductions de 20 des oeuvres que Zehra a composé dans l’urgence et la clandestinité avant d’être rattrapée par le système répressif et emprisonnée. L’exposition se poursuivra ensuite jusqu’en février. Les visiteurs pourront aussi y acheter le livre Les yeux grands ouverts – journal d’une condamnation/Chronique d’une exposition édité chez Fage, et aussi y acquérir des cartes postales pour envoi aux prisonnières et aux prisonniers politiques en Turquie.

Laissez-moi vous dire quelques mots au sujet de cette carte postale (que vous voyez en illustration). L’administration de la prison de Diyarbakir a interdit à Zehra tout accès à du matériel d’artiste – toiles, pinceaux, crayons, peintures… Elle utilise tout ce qui lui tombe sous la main pour continuer à témoigner de la vie. Elle a composé le dessin de cette carte sur un morceau de carton. Le papier soulignant l’oeil droit provient d’un paquet de cigarettes. Le jaune, du curcuma et le rouge…et bien, le rouge est une contribution d’une nouvelle arrivée à la prison, aux cheveux fraîchement teint au henné… Le tout fut passé en fraude lors d’une visite, transmis en France, réceptionné et imprimé par les bons soins de Kedistan…et comme un oiseau migrateur, pourra dorénavant retourner à son point de départ avec un texte en turc, disant ceci, par exemple:

Chère Zehra et ses amiEs, Une carte-postale voyage jusqu’à vous comme un oiseau migrateur.  Puissent ses ailes vous emporter, loin d’une cage à oiseaux. Le printemps reviendra, on y travaille.

“Migratory Bird”

With Jakye at cinéma Vertigo yesterday, we received the material for the Zehra Dogan exhibition to be inaugurated there on January 20th. That evening, visitors will see the documentary Baska Bir Dag (The Other Mountain) by Noémi Aubry et Anouck Mangeat on the daily life of Turkish and Kurdish women in today’s Turkey, then visit the exhibition of some twenty reproductions of works done by Zehra in the urgency of clandestinity prior to being recaptured and imprisonned by the repressive system. Visitors will also be able to buy the book  Les yeux grands ouverts – journal d’une condamnation/Chronique d’une exposition published by Fage, as well as postcards to send to political prisoners in Turkey.

Let me tell you a bit about this postcard (it serves as illustration to this post). The administration of Diyarbakir prison has forbidden Zehra access to all artistic materials – canvas, brushes, pencils, paints… She uses whatever she can lay her hands on in order to continue testifying to life. She did this work on a piece of cardboard. The paper outlining the right eye comes from a pack of cigarettes. The yellow, from turmeric and the red…well, the red was a contribution from a new prison arrival whose hair was still freshly dyed with henna…The work was then smuggled out during a visit, sent to France, received and printed thanks to Kedistan…and like a migratory bird, can now return to its starting point with a text in Turkish, saying the following, for instance:

Dear Zehra and friends, A postcard traveling to you like a migratory bird. May its wings carry you far away from the cage. Spring will return, we are working at it.
