Yes, I know. This is the day when all our thoughts are supposed to be magnetized by the U.S. presidential election – so sayeth the media. Apparently, all my thoughts aren’t magnetized in that direction. If they were, posting an elephant as today’s illustration would clearly mean my heart belongs to the Republican Party. Well, it doesn’t. Nor to the Democratic Party, but I’m not invited to vote in that election anyway.
As usual, my heart belongs to serendipity. The nine-year old adventurer in me loved The New York Times’ article about the luxury yacht refurbished and out at sea helping people escape the liquid graveyard. The seventy-year old me settles for less spectacular interventions.
So, the elephant illustrating the post? Call him Ganesh. Call this an invocation to same. Ganesh is supposed to guide writers. Even when they move forward at a snail’s pace? Even so – it’s a long scene I’m revising, full of speed bumps.
Therefore, I vote for Ganesh.
